Agro Link Solutions (ALS)
Background Information
Daniel
Pereira, a final-year student at the National Institute of Agricultural
Sciences in Rivermark, conducted extensive field research as part of his
degree. During this research, he visited hundreds of farmers across different
rural regions of the country. He discovered that most farmers were facing
similar challenges, including:
·
Unpredictable rainfall and weak irrigation
systems
·
Poor availability of modern farming
equipment
·
Low and unstable market prices for farm
produce
·
Lack of affordable financial support
·
Insufficient government guidance and
agricultural training
Concerned
by these issues, Daniel discussed his findings with his university professors
to explore possible solutions. On their advice, he prepared a detailed proposal
showing how digital technology could help farmers overcome these problems. He
also consulted farmer cooperatives, government departments, and local political
leaders.
Encouraged
by the positive response from these groups, Daniel established Agro Link
Solutions (ALS) as a social enterprise in late 2022. Soon after, he developed a
mobile application called “Farm Bridge”, which was launched for commercial use
in early 2023.
Farmers
can use the app free of charge for the first month. If they are satisfied, they
can continue using it by paying a fixed monthly subscription fee of $30. In
addition, users pay a small service charge on any transactions made through the
app, such as selling crops, buying seeds, renting equipment, or accessing other
services. Every registered user also receives daily weather updates, market
price trends, government policy alerts, and other farming-related news at no
extra cost. Download the entire case study below
